  1. Home
  2. Our approach

Low conflict, clear costs, children out of the middle.

That is the whole approach in one line. Here is what it looks like from your first call to the months after your case closes.

A mother and daughter walk along a green, sunlit garden path

Step by step

What happens, and when.

  1. 1

    Day 1

    A free 30-minute consultation

By video, phone or in our office. You tell us what is going on. We tell you the options and answer the money question honestly.

  2. 2

    Within 3 business days

    Your written plan

A short document with your options, the path we recommend, a likely timeline and a fee estimate. You decide with the facts in front of you.

  3. 3

    Weeks 1 to 6

    Gather and share information

We collect income, accounts, debts and parenting details, and exchange what Ohio law requires with the other side.

  4. 4

Weeks 4 to 12, for most cases

    Settle, or prepare for court

Most families settle through negotiation or mediation. When that fails, we prepare your case for the judge, with no surprises for you.

  5. 5

    Final hearing and after

    Finish well

We walk you through the final hearing, then check in at 30 and 90 days to make sure the orders work in real life.

Our promises

What we will do, and what we will not.

We will

  • Return calls and messages within one business day
  • Put every fee estimate in writing before work starts
  • Tell you when a fight costs more than it is worth
  • Explain each court paper before you sign it

We will not

  • Escalate a case to run up hours
  • Ask your children to pick sides or testify
  • Send you a bill you did not expect
  • Push mediation when it is not safe for you

Fees, explained

Three ways to pay. All in writing.

Your written plan says which one fits your case. Payment plans are available for every fee type.

Flat fee

$1,500 to $3,500

For agreed cases with a clear scope: dissolutions, agreed parenting plans, modifications, protection orders and stepparent adoptions.

  • One price, paid in up to 3 installments
  • Court filing costs listed separately

Hourly, with an estimate

$285 per hour

For contested divorces and custody disputes. You get a written estimate by stage and a monthly statement with every entry.

  • Retainer starts at $4,000
  • Associate time billed at $210 per hour

Mediation

$240 per hour

For couples who want to settle together. The cost is usually split 50/50, and most cases finish in 3 to 5 sessions.
